Year 4

It's the start of a new school year and we in year four are excited to get back to work.

Our topic this term is called Street Art.

In literacy in our topic we will be writing information leaflets and non chronological reports on New York City, writing a newspaper report based around the 9/11 tragedy, autobiographies about The Beatles, creating our own superhero comic strips set in New York and writing a persuasive advert for a holiday company selling trips to New York.

In art we will be creating silhouettes of the New York skyline, perspective images of Times Square and recreating famous pieces of work by Andy Warhol.

In Geography and History we will be looking at life in New York and comparing it to life where we live as well as using maps and atlases to locate key physical and urban locations within the USA. We will also look at modern American history in the form of the 9/11 disaster.

We will also link PE to our topic and be performing some street dances.

In ICT we will be looking at writing for differnt audiences. This will be in the form of using word processing software and how to use it correctly and effectively.

Our Science topic for the first half term is 'Moving and Growing'; we will look at the bones and muscles within the human body as well as in animals, the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates and we will be investigating whether people grow at the same pace as each other.

Our PE days for this school year are Tuesdays and Fridays. PE is a part of your child's education and as such can you sure they have a PE kit in school on these days. If, for any reason, your child is unable to do PE can you please send in a note explaining why or speak to your child's teacher.

Children have now been given reading books. Can you please encourage your child to read at home. This is a very important part of their education.

If you have any questions about any aspect of your child's education in school please make an appointment to see their teacher.

Thank you

Mrs. Dickinson and Mr. Kenny
