Crags Physical Education Curriculum
PE at Crags aims to develop the physical skills, knowledge, and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional. physical and social wellbeing. We pride ourselves in developing pupils' physical fitness and encouraging healthy lifestyles. The PE curriculum also identifies connectivity with other subjects of the wider curriculum.
Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing, skills and fitness of all children at Crags, through the sporting skills taught and through the underpinning of values and disciplines that PE promotes. Within lessons, children are taught about self-discipline and that to be successful they need to take ownership and responsibility of their own health and fitness. We aim to motivate children to utilise these skills in an independent and effective way in order to live happy and healthy lives in and out of school.
Within our carefully sequenced PE curriculum, lessons include competitive and non-competitive sports along with individual and team activities. This breadth allows all children to experience and develop the skills of resilience, teamwork and motivation. We intend to develop an enjoyment of physical activity and enabling lifelong participation.
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
Pupils at Crags participate in weekly, 2 hour, high quality PE lessons taught by specialist qualified staff. The PE programme incorporates a wide variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in physical activities before, during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events. We have an inclusive approach which encourages the physical development and well-being of all children.
We have also been awarded:
- School Games Platinum Award
- YST Quality Mark
- National Centre of Excellence for Health and Wellbeing
