Update 22.05.20

Dear Families,

We are currently awaiting further information from the Government that schools can safely re-open to a wider group of pupils. Following your responses confirming with us whether or not your child will be returning to school, we have been carefully planning how the school can open to F1, F2, Y1 and Y6 pupils that may be returning, alongside our priority groups.  Further announcements will be made during half term so we will try to get additional information and confirmation of a return to you as quickly as we can.

In the meantime we would like to share some further information regarding the plans we have been putting in place. Please remember that they are only provisional and could change again at very short notice.

What will the school day look like?

We will try to keep the school experience as normal as possible for our children.  However, as a result of following stringent guidance to ensure the school community is as safe as possible, there will be a significant number of changes to the way we would normally operate.

  • Class sizes will be reduced by at least half and up to a maximum of 15, however we will try to keep them smaller if possible.
  • As a result of this, it may not be possible for your child to be in a group with their class teacher, but we will try to ensure that at the very least, they will be with familiar adults.
  • Children will remain in their small group and will not be able to mix with other children.
  • Start and finish times will be staggered for each year group (times to be confirmed).
  • Break times and lunchtimes will also be staggered.
  • We will have a one way entry and exit system.
  • Only one adult per family should accompany children on the school site when dropping off and picking up.
  • Additional hygiene and cleaning practices will be carried out routinely throughout the day.
  • No parents will be allowed into the school building and can only be seen by prior appointment.
  • Children and staff will be expected to wash their hands on entry to school, throughout the day and prior to leaving.
  • Where possible nothing should be brought into school from home eg, toys, pencil cases, book bags etc.
  • Children may bring their own packed lunch if they don't have dinners, water bottle and sun hat.
  • Children will be expected to wear uniform where possible.

When can my child attend?

In order to keep our school community as safe as we possibly can, we will also be staggering the return of year groups to support children, families and staff with all of the changes to routines and expectations.  Children will be allocated to a group on arrival to school and school leaders with be present to help people.

Provisional dates for return are as follows:

Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd of June – school will only open to key worker and vulnerable groups that are currently attending.

Wednesday 3rd June – Year One pupils will return.

Thursday 4th June – Foundation One and Two pupils will return.

Friday 5th June – Y6 pupils will return.

Unfortunately there will be no Breakfast or After-School Club provision as it is not possible to run them under the current measures.  School will finish at 1pm on Friday as normal but there will be no Friday Club offer.

How can you help?

  • Talk to your children about some of the changes to expect.
  • Teach your child how to wash their hands – useful resources will be added to the parent section of the school website or you can access on the following website: https://www.e-bug.eu for other activities around hygiene.
  • Encourage children to use tissues when they sneeze or cough.
  • Observe social distancing at all times when on the school site.
  • Do not gather in groups at the school gates or in the playground.
  • Outside of school follow the Government guidance to reduce risk to yourself and others.
  • Do not allow children to bring anything into school unless it is essential.
  • Do not enter the school site if you or your child has any symptoms of COVID-19.

We understand that this is a very difficult and worrying decision for some families and whilst we will be implementing stringent safety measures it needs to be acknowledged that it is not possible for children in an Early Years and Primary School setting to remain 2 metres apart from other children and staff.  We would also like to remind you that there is no penalty if your child does not attend.

If my child is not attending

  • As much as possible we will continue to offer learning opportunities to any child who continues to learn from home.
  • Free school meal packed lunches will continue to be available for collection - times may be subject to change.

We understand that some of you may also change your mind as more information is shared or your working requirements differ.  As we have planned initially for those that have indicated they wish for their children to return, please inform us if you wish for your child to return at a later date.  Please do not turn up at school without letting us know as we will have to safely plan for any additional children and allocate them to a group.

I must remind you once again that these plans are subject to change and will be confirmed once we are told that schools are safe to re-open.  School will be closed next week for half term but if you have any questions or queries then we will have time to answer those on return or as we provide further detail.  We look forward to welcoming some of our children back to school if and when it is safe to do so.

I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you for your continued support, understanding and patience during this very difficult time.  Our school community are and continue to be at the forefront of every decision we make.

Take care and stay safe.

Mrs Normington

Update - 11.05.20

Dear Families,

The Prime Minister announced yesterday evening that primary schools MAY be able to re-open to some pupils no earlier than 1st June 2020, dependent on a number of other factors.  Schools have been given no further information at this point and await further guidance on if and how this can be achieved safely for children, families and staff.  We will be in contact with you as soon as we have any further information on any changes to our provision.

In the meantime school continues to offer childcare provision only to children of key workers, our most vulnerable and those with an EHCP.  Home learning will continue to be offered via the means below.  Please continue to check the website for further information and updates.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Stay safe

Mrs N
